Spy Shots: Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Avenger

Allpar.com's collection of Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger spy shots is now unrivaled on the internet after adding shots of Euro-spec models being test in the old country. This shot is reportedly of a diesel model and clearly shows the shape of the vehicle's headlights. The site also reports that engine options have been narrowed down to the 2.4L World Engine four-cylinder, a 2.7L V6 and larger 3.5L V6 coupled to either a four-speed auto or Chrysler-developed six-speed auto. Export models get a 2.0L version of the World Engine or a diesel. Credit goes to Allpar.com for also compiling a list of features that's more detailed than most press releases.
Check out the site for more pics, including a nice interior pic that shows Chrysler's new switchgear.
Thanks Jeremy for the tip!

I wonder how well the 300c design themes will play out in the smaller Sebring. What i see doesnt impress.
The 300c is all about presence, SIZE, and bling! This looks too small wimpy to be carrying the same design cues as the 300. And, why are they so cheap as to not paint the side mirror?

Dave runs a quality site. An excellent resource on anything Chrysler makes.
I don't think it's possible to tell how the car will look from these spy shots. At least I hope not, because it doesn't look good in them. But sometimes production trim/wheels/etc. make a car look ten times better than it did in the spy shots. Hopefully this is one of those cases.
The current Stratus/Sebring has had little impact on the midsize class. A shame, since the basic styling has always been pretty good. My review of the sportiest variant, the Stratus RT: http://www.epinions.com/content_75349003908

Wow on the interior. That's a light year jump from the last gen.

Chrysler has been leading edge in styling. This looks like yesterday.

Given that the Stratus/Sebring is still selling so well and that the new car looks dull and cheap, why bother with a redesign? If your new car does nothing to advance the state of car design, why bother? Hope its cheap and loaded. See you at the rental counter...

Tall & clunky, Saturn Ion like almost. Most importantly, when is Chrysler going to get a clue and work on the quality of their interiors? The Caliber has the hardest, cheapest plastic I've seen in years and the new Sebring looks no different.

"If your new car does nothing to advance the state of car design, why bother?"
Then Toyota would be out of business.
There is something about Chrysler-Dodge interiors which turns me off. They are sooo spartan and basic.

When Toyota comes out with a new car, the car invariably is better than the car it replaces, and better than the current competition in many aspects. We can quibble about whether we consider the results desirable to us, but Toyota's track record overall shows that a new version typically outsells the old. I am not a Toyota fan - never owned one - but their consistent progress is impressive

so is that weird paint job supposed to diguise the contours and actual shape of car in photographs?

Welp, they lost my cash. Another sporty looking two door that has been changed into a definite grocery getter.

Look at the 3/4 view, looks like an ION

Can't you people see that this is still a prototype?
"And, why are they so cheap as to not paint the side mirror?"
See above.

Selling to who? You can't even see what the car looks like, or what the final product is going to be. You see the shape, and thats about it. Some of you make the stupidest statments, wait for the final product before running your snooty up in the air.

The next Sebring does not have design cues from the 300. The Avenger appears to be mostly a baby Charger but the Sebring is more influenced by the Pacifica. This is not too hard to tell from the spy shots. And personally, I'm excited to see what this car will look like with the camo off. It looks like it will be a great looking car.

A very high percentage of these cars are currently sold to rental fleets. Their retail sales are fairly weak, and I don't get the sense that they're even on the radar of many midsize sedan shoppers.
The prototypes look a bit much like the Saturn ION / next gen Sentra. But I'm ready to be surprised by the production cars.

The way the hood, front fenders, grill and headlamps come together is reminiscent of the 1997-2000 Ford Mondeo. The front doors and roofline have that Gen I & II Mondeo look, too.

I see in the first picture a nice manual transmission. What a shame it will be for export models only. I so wish more domestice or psuedo-domestic manufacturers would put manuals in their cars. I can live with it being only in the 2.4L 4-cylinder, but it would be SWEET with the big V6!
DCX can you keep the diesels here in the U.S. after low sulfur fuel becomes readily available please?
I'll reserve judgment on the exterior until I see a production model, but looks pretty decent to me. I see some Crossfire influence up front.

More Chrysler stupidity.
2.4 with obsolete transmission, just buy Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry all have 5 speed autos with their I4s.
Slow rental.
2.7 & 4 speed auto, buy a Kia Optima and get a 5 speed auto standard.
3.5 & 6 speed auto. 2008 Mazda6, 2007 Toyota Camry, both have a 3.5V6 and BETTER 6 speed automatic.
